With the 2017-18 NHL season officially underway, a look at the best and worst chances for the New York Islanders, Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals to make the playoffs.
The top three teams will be vying for the second wild-card spot, and each of the teams are expected to have a chance to make it out of the first round of the playoffs after going 6-5-1.
The Islanders are expected by most to make their second straight post-lockout playoff appearance, while the Penguins have a slim playoff chance due to a 4-5 start and will likely be eliminated from the playoffs at the hands of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first-round.
The Capitals have a playoff odds of 0.5 percent, and with the return of Evgeny Kuznetsov to Washington, the Capitals are expected for a playoff run.
